Brunch brings out the best of two meals that foodies cannot do without. As a favourite weekend activity, it also brings families together over scrumptious food that warms the soul from the inside out. Here are some of the top places in the world where you can get the full benefit of this mouth-watering pastime.
Table of Contents
1. Culina, Modern Italian (Los Angeles, US)
Culina, Modern Italian is based in Los Angeles in the US and has become a favourite not only with locals, but also tourists. Boasting multiple stations that serve fresh juices and a variety of omelettes as well as a fondue fountain that gushes out fresh chocolate every week, it is little wonder why it is packed with families during the weekends.
The menu is always being updated to ensure patrons don’t get bored with the same fare. Recently, the restaurant added pizza on the menu which is made in a special outdoor oven. Their Pizza with Burrata e Speck is a crowd pleaser because of its freshly sourced ingredients.
2. Blixen (East London, UK)
For a comforting Sunday in East London, head to Blixen. Take a seat around one of the gorgeous garden tables and order from a menu that will make you salivate as you go through it.
The entire menu is a treat for families and foodies alike. Don’t forget to sample their fluffy pancakes topped with whipped cream and I think that it was whipped using one of those nitrous oxide propelled cream whippers and fresh blueberries but if you prefer a meaty brunch, try the salt beef and potato rosti. This dish is served with perfectly poached eggs and their own hollandaise sauce. Blixen also serves a savoury hotpot which is chock full of beans, chorizo, eggs and coriander crème fraiche. Needless to say, you will breathe a sigh of contentment and unbuckle your belt after finishing it.
3. Babington’s Tea Rooms (Rome, Italy)
Babington’s Tea Rooms may be located in Rome, but it offers a range of British treats that no one can resist. The tea rooms have been run by the same family for close to a century and boast elegant and chic interiors.
Even though it is open every day, head there on Sunday to sample the popular brunch. Besides a full English breakfast, this also includes Italian and Continental options and of course the signature dishes such as salads and muffins. If you love their pastries and teas, you can take home a delicious souvenir from the counter.
4. Kogarah Clubhouse (Sydney, Australia)
The Kogarah Clubhouse is based in Sydney, Australia, and besides entertainment, it has been offering a range of dining options for 6 decades. The Blake Street Kitchen Kogarah in particular is a must visit spot for brunch enthusiasts because of its ever-changing menu.
In fact, you can get breakfast at any time of the day or night from 7 am onwards and get more options from 11:30 am onwards. The Blake St Kitchen menu will not disappoint whether you visit with a friend or your whole family. You can also sample drinks from the bar and have a great time in the bargain.
5. Mama Roux (Psyri, Athens)
Considered to be one of the most popular brunch places in Athens, Mama Roux is a cosy little restaurant that is located right in the heart of Athens. It offers a variety of international menu options which are well thought out.
Mama Roux is one of the few places in the city that offers a range of flavours that New York and California are famous for. This includes savoury vegan options as well as a variety of burgers, pasta dishes and even fried cheesecake. It is one of the few places in Athens that offers Indian, Mexican, American and Arabic cuisine without messing up either one.
6. Bohemia (Kreuzplatz, Zurich)
Zurich is paradise for foodies due to its diverse cuisine and extensive brunches. If you find yourself in the city, don’t book a trip back home without heading to Bohemia first for the best brunch you’ve ever had. The menu boasts Caribbean, South American and Californian dishes and it is one of the few brunch venues that offer freshly roasted coffee. Nothing can beat that heavenly scent especially during the early hours of the morning!
The brunch menu also boasts fresh homemade cakes that are made from locally sourced and organic ingredients which you can enjoy as late as 4pm if you want to. Overall, Bohemia is a must visit for brunch lovers who find themselves in Zurich and want a taste of food fusions they have never tasted before.
7. La Bossue (Paris, France)
La Bossue has been dominating the brunch scene in Paris ever since it opened its doors. Their impressive menu includes Madeleine cakes and a variety of cookies as well as croissants and brioches that anyone with a sweet tooth will appreciate.
The best part about those mouth watering items is that everything is made in-house and is as good as any loving granny can make. They even make fresh bread from scratch every day but their brunch is what brings in crowds on Sundays. The homemade buffet is served with fresh squeezed orange juice and a range of hot drinks such as coffee, tea and their own hot chocolate.
So if you find yourself in any of the aforementioned locations, check out the recommended buffets in each if you want to sample the local cuisine and more. However, even though some places allow walk-ins, you should check and make reservations beforehand. Nothing is worse for a foodie than looking forward to a dining experience only to discover there are no seats available. This should be on your to-do list especially if you have a large family you want to take with you. If nothing else at least try out Blake Street Kitchen Kogarah and particularly the Blake St Kitchen menu for an unforgettable experience.
