The Tenuta is situated on the Tyrrhenian coast, between Leghorn and Grosseto, in Maremma. Three are its defining components around this great estate – the Sassicaia wine, the Razza Dormello-Olgiata pedigreed stud farm and the Bird Sanctuary Oasi di Bolgheri. The estate is found on 350m above sea level, which makes it one of the highest peaks in the Bolgheri region. The greatness of Sassicaia is confirmed by the recognition they have been given their own DOC, the DOC Bolgheri Sassicaia. The first and so far, the only case in Italy of a DOC contained in one estate. Sassicaia means “the place of many stones,” and refers to the region’s gravel soil which makes the Sassicaia a great wine, together with the terroir and the devotion of the winery’s team.
