Men. We love them, but there’s no denying that they can be a bit dense sometimes when it comes to certain things in a woman’s life. We’ve all dreamt of the perfect wedding (and Hollywood is happy to remind us!) but what’s often less discussed is how often we’ve dreamt of the perfect engagement ring. The setting – a fancy restaurant, or a beach, or a Cali boardwalk, maybe – and the family and friends present, and the crowing and weeping you’ll likely do when he bends the knee like Jon Snow should have . . . certainly you’ve imagined all those things. But the ring itself? Let’s be honest, it’s just as important. The tricky part is to get your lovable but occasionally unobservant beau to do his part.
This is an easy one. Sitting down with a bowl of popcorn and Netflix on the tube can be a good opportunity to point out how clearly stoked Drew Barrymore was when Adam Sandler popped the question in The Wedding Singer, and how *great* a dude he was to make it so special . . . you get the idea. Try this list for inspiration (we recommend The Proposal, obviously).
A not so subtle approach to getting your partner to take the hint about that ring is hopping onto EraGem and pointing out some that you like. Don’t worry, you don’t have to make it pushy if you’re not the sort to lay it all out; try remarking on the mastery of the setting and the jewels, or speculate on how well it would look on your finger or whether it would fit.
The best way to communicate a want or need in a relationship is always to do just that… discuss it. Why not invite him over, cook a nice romantic dinner (lots of great recipes if the idea of cooking is intimidating) with maybe some candles and wine. If marriage is something that’s important to you, or if you feel that it’s high time for things to move on to the next step, say so in a serious and understanding way. If your guy is worth his salt, he’ll get that he needs to step up to the plate if he wants to keep you around. There are lots of good talking points to bring up, and don’t sell yourself short – but always come from a place of love. Remember, he could be scared!
Keep your head up and you’ll have a diamond sparkling on that finger in no time, ladies.
